# Which windows suit each room: a room-by-room guide

A window does a different job in every room — quiet, moisture resistance or safety.

Windows are often chosen for the whole house at once: the same profile, the same glazing, the same opening type. It is convenient, but not always the best value. In each room the window does a different job: in the bedroom it should keep things quiet, in the kitchen it must withstand moisture and steam, and in a children's room safety matters most. In this article we look at what deserves attention in each room.

## Why not choose the same windows everywhere?

A uniform approach is simple, but it can mean you overpay for some things while missing others. A considered choice lets you invest where it really affects comfort and save where extra features are not needed. You can safely combine different glazing and opening types in one house.

## Bedroom

In the bedroom, peace and fresh air matter most.

### Sound insulation

If the bedroom faces the street, consider triple glazing or glazing with improved sound insulation.

### Ventilation

A tilt-and-turn window lets you ventilate the room at night in tilt mode. Micro-ventilation is also worth considering.

### Darkening

Plan space for curtains or blinds by the window so the room can be darkened sufficiently.

## Children's room

In a child's room, safety comes first.

### Safe ventilation

Tilt mode lets you ventilate without opening the window fully.

### Locking

Hardware can have extra protection against accidental opening, such as a lockable handle. Ask about the available options.

### Furniture layout

Do not place a bed or play area right next to an opening window.

## Kitchen

In the kitchen, the window faces steam, moisture and grease.

### Easy cleaning

Smooth surfaces and easily reachable frames make care easier.

### Opening type

If the window is above the worktop, consider whether it will be easy to open. Sometimes a sliding or top-tilting window is a better solution.

### Moisture

Ventilate the kitchen after cooking so condensation does not form on the glass and frames.

## Bathroom

In the bathroom, privacy and moisture control are key.

### Frosted or patterned glass

It keeps the natural light while providing privacy.

Ventilate after every shower. Regular ventilation is especially important in a room with high humidity.

### Durable materials

PVC and aluminium profiles are resistant to moisture.

## Living room

In the living room, light and the view matter.

### Large glass areas

Let you enjoy daylight and the view of the garden. Slim aluminium frames work especially well here.

### South side

On the sunny side the room can heat up in summer. Ask about glazing with a solar control coating.

### UV protection

If the room has valuable furniture or flooring, consider glazing that reduces fading.

### Access to the terrace

Panoramic sliding doors connect the interior with the outdoor area.

## Home office

Quiet improves concentration.

### Daylight

Provide enough light, but think about glare on the screen. Sometimes it is easier to choose a different spot for the desk than to change the window.

### Fresh air

Regular ventilation improves wellbeing and productivity.

## Entrance area and stairwell

### Doors

For an exterior door, warmth, security and precise installation matter.

### Glass elements

Frosted or patterned glass in a door lets light in without exposing the interior to view.

### Threshold

Check that it is thermally insulated and easy to clean.

## What to consider when choosing room by room?

- Room function. What happens in this room in your life and what matters most there
- Orientation. On the north side insulation matters more; on the south side, think about overheating
- Outside environment. Noise, view, neighbours and privacy
- Furniture layout. Will the window open without hitting furniture
- Budget. Invest where it genuinely improves everyday life
