# Why does installation affect window lifespan more than the window itself?

Clients often focus on the window itself – the profile, the glazing, the material – but forget an equally important, less visible factor: installation. And that is often what decides whether the windows last 20+ years or cause problems in the very first winter.

## What happens when installation is done wrong?

Even the highest quality window will not perform properly if it is not fitted correctly. The most common consequences:

- Draughts and cold bridges around the frame, even if the glazing itself is excellent
- Moisture and mould caused by poor sealing
- Faster wear – the frame can deform if it is not fixed correctly
- Higher heating bills – you pay for heat that simply escapes outside

## What does quality installation look like?

Proper installation means far more than placing the window into the opening. It includes:

- Precise measurements before installation – every house and every opening is different
- Correct sealing between the frame and the wall to prevent moisture and cold ingress
- Suitable fixings chosen for the wall material and structure
- Correct fitting of reveals and sills so water is drained away properly

## How does this affect window lifespan?

A correctly installed window can serve for decades without significant problems. A badly installed window – even a high quality one – can cause issues within a couple of years, and fixing them often costs more than proper installation would have cost in the first place.
