How to recognise quality windows - what to look for before buying?

Real quality is in the details - and those details only become visible when you know what to look for.

There are many offers on the window market, and from the outside they can look much alike. Yet real quality lies in details that only become visible once you know what to look for. Here are the main criteria that help you tell a quality window from an average offer.

Seven criteria to check

Profile quality

Check the wall thickness of the profile and the number of chambers in the profile (not to be confused with glazing chambers). A thicker profile with more chambers provides better thermal insulation and stability.

Glazing performance

Quality glazing must meet specific thermal transmittance (U-value) figures. The lower the U-value, the better the insulation. Ask the seller for this information - a trustworthy supplier will provide it without hesitation.

Hardware manufacturer and quality

Hardware (hinges, locking mechanisms) determines how long a window will serve trouble-free in daily use. Hardware from known, proven manufacturers usually means fewer problems later.

Sealing quality

Quality windows have multiple sealing contours, providing both thermal insulation and protection against moisture and noise.

Manufacturer warranty

A trustworthy manufacturer and seller will offer a clear, documented warranty for both the window and the hardware. A vague or very short warranty is often a signal of lower quality.

Certificates and compliance with standards

Quality windows comply with European standards for thermal insulation, sound insulation and durability. A reliable supplier can present the relevant certificates.

Supplier experience and reviews

A company's reputation and the experience of previous clients often reveal more about quality than any technical figure.
